I am an introvert and I am proud of it. I prefer to listen
than talk. I prefer staying at home and reading a book in my free time rather
than going to a party. I absolutely abhor small talk. This does not mean I am
shy. It is just how my personality is. I am wired this way. I may look serious but that does not mean I am
not happy or something is bothering me. I am tired of people asking me why I don’t
talk or that I should be more outgoing and look more enthusiastic, because for
them the only acceptable personality type is extrovertism.
People should realize that being an introvert is not a disease
which can be cured. It is just the way we are. We recharge when we spend time
alone. There are many famous personalities
in the world who were introverts but there work has influenced the world a lot.
So we should change our notion that a person who is outgoing or who speaks well
can only succeed.
Thank you so much! This is exactly how I feel. My coworker keeps trying to get me to go to the annual worker get together and I'm like uh, no thanks. She doesn't get that I like books and home better than spending time with a bunch of people making stupid small talk.
ReplyDeleteDo you like you interactions with people to be one on one or maybe two too?
I am happy you were able to relate to my post :) I always prefer a one on one interaction:)
DeleteWhat people think is their problem....whatever that is.... Changing Times...you are very expressive...here in this blog...that's gonna keep you happy....it takes courage to be ourselves...and we can try to be to a large extent....:)
ReplyDeleteThank you Sowmya :) Yes you are right, being ourselves takes a lot of courage in this ever changing world:)
DeleteThe trick is to surround yourself with introverts. Or friends who understand. Because it's great to get into a deep conversation about something that matters with someone you know well.

Yes I agree with you Liz..I am lucky to have friends like that :) Thanks for stopping by :)
DeleteAmen to this! I used to work at an engineering college and we'd show our freshmen the Susan Cain TED Talk. They loved it :)

Oh I loved her TED talk too...it was very inspiring and encouraging :)
DeleteI couldn't agree more. A lot of my friends keep telling me that I should do more 'normal' and 'fun' things. Curling up on my couch with a good book is totally normal and a LOT of fun for me. They simply don't get it. Sigh.

Yes Shanaya you are right...they just don;t understand that being alone does not mean we are lonely..it just means that we enjoy our own company :) Thanks for stopping by :)
DeleteVery well said.. I am an introvert too. I have a big problem in making friends... Partying and all that...
ReplyDeleteOh I can relate to that too. Thank you :) Its good to know that I am not the only one who feels like this :)
